Philtered is the music and entertainment site of Phil Dye – affectionately known as
‘The Old Guy with Cool Songs’
Phil Dye is an Illawarra based musician with over 50-years’ experience performing in Australia & overseas. He was a founding member of ‘The Moonshiners’ before recording three solo albums and forming ‘Feral Flynn’ with ex SSO violinist Graham Jacups.
In July 2020 he was mentioned in Federal Parliament for his community initiative ‘Songs for Lockdown’ which provided entertainment for families during covid lockdown in Sydney’s inner west. During lockdown he also provided music for residents of nursing homes in Sydney.
He has performed to members of the Royal Family in London sharing the stage with Barry Humphries and Rolf Harris. His 2008 album won acclaim from the Sydney Morning Herald while his most popular track remains the 2001 original ‘Bum and Poo Song’. This song has been streamed over 115,000 times since release and is the nightmare of every parent.
In 2022 he formed ‘The Baldricks’ and has since had monthly gigs at Coolangatta Estate playing medieval music for their ‘Great Hall Banquet’. He performs regularly for Wollongong Council in Crown Street Mall Wollongong and takes limited private gigs in the Illawarra and Sydney.
He also performs as a duo with harmony singer Lee Louise.
